The current HM Prison and Young Offender Institution Feltham was formed by the amalgamation of Ashford Remand Centre and Feltham Borstal in 1990/91. The establishment is split into Feltham A, which holds young people (aged 15-18), and Feltham B, which holds young adults (aged 18-21). Accommodation Feltham A, There are 7 units for young people.

From 2004 to 2006, Feltham Borstal entrance off Bedfont Road. For instance there is a copy of a letter of the 10th January 1916 from the War Office to the Under Secretary of State at the Home Office thanking the Home Department for consenting to allow the borstal institution at Feltham being used for the Interment of aliens in sympathy with the Allies. Fortunately, I was never a borstal boy myself, although I have a close family member who was a governor grade at two very well-known borstals in the 1970s – both still exist as dysfunctional Young Offender Institutions (YOIs) and are regularly panned in alarming reports by HM Inspectorate of Prisons.
